With the Truckee River receiving some spring runoff, the water has been a bit high and off color. This time of year can produce some very nice trout. In this picture George Butcher holds a beautiful female rainbow that took a "Stonedaddy". This week has also produced some real nice browns. Keith Tucker and Jordan Hirsch from Reno both have stuck outstanding browns this week.

MARCH BROWNS in APRIL ! Good Stuff !
March Browns were hatching in good numbers today on the Truckee River. On a guide trip with Nancy Y., she got a 21 plus in. female rainbow and an even bigger male brown. She did an outstanding job fighting the fish. Both fish took a #12 "Sweet Pea". The river was up a bit and slightly off color however, this did not stop the fish from feeding on the mayflies. Nancy did a great job wading to the necessary spots to hook the fish. We had a great time today on the river!

BAETIS BONANZA!
The baetis (BWO's) have been hatching heavily on the Truckee River. This is the time for excellent dry fly action. I've had some stellar guide trips for the last two weeks. The best patterns have been grey/olive CDC's and Parachute Adams in size #16 & 14, yes 14's! 5X has been fooling fish. Here are some pics of guide trips and friends. With Doug O.

Truckee River - Catching Up
It's been a few months since I've made a post but now I'm back. I've been working on my new web sites "www.truckeeriverflyfishing.com" and "www.fivedotflyfishing.com". When you get a chance check them out.
I have been giving biweekly "I was there" fishing reports on the web site www.truckeeriverfltfishing.com.
Now to catch up on what's happening.
I've been very busy guiding the river since January. These trips have produced some very fine fish.
I want to thank all of my clients especially my repeat clients. I've posted some pics of some of this year's trips.
The Truckee River has been fishing well since January. Baetis nymphs have been very productive and on cloudy days the fish have been on BWO dries! As usual Stonedaddys have stuck some BIG rainbows.
This year I'll working with and for three of my very good friends, Master Guide Dave Stanley, Master Guide Matt "Gilligan" Koles, and Ernie Gulley. These guys are all great guides and expert anglers. Dave owns the "Truckee River Outfitters", Gilligan owns "Gilligan's Guide Service" and Ernie owns "Ernie Gulley's Guide Service". In Nevada I will be working as a sub guide under both Dave Stanley and Matt "Gilligan" Koles.
Ernie will be working with me on the 5 DOT Clinics. He is an incredible stillwater angler with some exceptional techniques. He is one of the very best guides on Crowley Lake " The Crowley Crusher", so if you are planning to fish there give him a call.
Gilligan knows the river like the back of his hand. He spends a tremendous amount of time on the water, when he's not guiding he is spending his days off fishing. He is a true angler and is a pleasure to fish with.
We are planning on doing some clinics together this year. Check back with us for the dates.
Dave has guided the river and surrounding waters longer than anyone. He owned the Reno Fly Shop for 30 years. He is a "master angler" as well as an expert hunter. We have been friends for a very long time.
I am proud and privileged to be able to work with such fine people as these. We all have one thing in common "A Passion for Fly Fishing".
If anyone has any questions please give me a call at (775) 722-2267 or email me at; calvadaflyfishing@sbcglobal.net

TRUCKEE RIVER JAN.2012
The Truckee River has been producing some outstanding rainbows lately. These BIG bows are grabbing "stonedaddies", midge patterns, and baetis nymphs. When fishing for these "rockets" 4x is as light as you would want to use. These fish are very powerful and are broken off by anglers without experience in handling these animals. Remember- BE READY! The pics are; Doug O. with a female bow, Ryan Edde with a male bow,Doug O.with a male bow, and a female bow.
