NCCFFF "Festival of FLY Fishing"

On October 7th,8th,and 9th the Northern California Council of the Federation of Fly Fishers(NCCFFF) will be hosting a "Festival of Fly Fishing" There will be some of the best fly tiers,fly casters, and speakers from the Western U.S.  I will be speaking on the 7th & 8th on "Truckee River Trophy Trout".  On Sunday the 9th, Mike Sexton and I will be holding an "on the water " highsticking clinic.  Mike is on the U.S. National Competition Team. He has competed all over the world including Europe and New Zealand. Sign ups for the clinic will be at the Festival.  See you there,  Doug Ouellette

NOMAD FLY FISHING

DIAMOND LAKE

Just got back from a stillwater trip in Oregon. Fished Diamond Lake and a bay at Wickiup Res. Both places had  good callibaetis hatches. I used a floating line with a 25ft.leader with 4x tippet. Stuck some big fish on my "redheaded stepchild"pattern (#16)and my "clear water callibaetis"pattern which are very good callibaetis imitations,both are unweighted.  Here's a few pics of the fish.

5 DOT Reservoir is without a doubt one one the very best stillwaters in the west. It is a 400 acre private fishery located 15 miles north of Susanville Calif.  It supports many great hatches including chironomids,callibaetis, and damsels. It also has leeches,water boatmen and baitfish. Carpenter ants and termite hatches occur annually providing some excellent dry fly opportunities. The reservoir is packed with FAT, healthy rainbows.
